Frequently Asked Questions

How does the App determine when your in another country?

The App uses your smart phone's GPS unit to determine where it is and reports that to the App.  The App MUST be open on your smart phone or tablet and the Start Tracking function on the Account page selected in order for the App to track and count your days automatically.  Don't worry, if you realize that it is not open and or tracking simply activate the App and add in the days missed when prompted by the App. If the location services don’t load then just add the country manually and fill in the correct Start and End Date of your travel to the appropriate country or state.

Be sure to go to “Settings” in your phone, select “CountUrDays” App, select “Location” and set the selection to “Always” allow location access. This will allow the App to monitor your location for more accurate tracking.

How much historical travel data do I need to put into the App in order for it to calculate my days per country correctly?

You will need to add all of your travel days for each  country you have visited for the current year into the App and additional historical data for the countries noted below:

USA - 2 past years plus the current year,

Ireland - 1 past year plus the current year,

Norway -  2 past years plus the current year,

India - 3 past years plus the current year.

What happens if i don't accept the request to confirm that i am in another country?

The App will still track this travel but will not report it to the Dashboard which will result in an error to the total days and remaining days calculated.  The App is designed as a tool to help the User automatically track the days they spend in countries they visit,  if the User wishes to opt out of allowing the App to process data then then they do so at their own pleasure.

How does the App know that it is the user reporting?

Your smart phone requires the User to open the phone by use of  the one's finger print or facial recognition feature.  It is this action that confirms the User is you when asking for travel confirmations.  If the User's smart phone does not have these features then the App will not have the ability to confirm who the User is.

Does the app calculate the substantial presence test (SPT) rules of every country in the world?

No, the App only calculates the SPT rules for those countries listed in the Disclaimer.  The App will however record the number of days spent in every country in the world and may be used as a record at a later date.  All this data is available for viewing on the Activity page.

How do I add the collective number of days I spent in countries visited, for past tax relevant periods?

Select the + icon in the top right section of either the Dashboard or Activity page and select the country you visited,  enter the start date and end date, having pre-calculated the total  number of days you have spent in that country for the applicable year.  for example, if you spent 80 days in the USA in 2017 then select the + icon, select USA, select 01/01/2017 in Start Date, select 03/21/2017 in End Date, then add a note in the Note section to remind you that this entry represents the aggregate number of days spent in the USA for 2017 and select Submit.   The 80 days will be added as one block in the App and will now appear on the Activity page.

If  I close the App by swiping it away, will the App still record my travel and days?

Yes, update 2.1 Leveraging Apple’s secure way to track significant location change, we’ve made a critical update to the application’s location tracking compatibilities and now CountUrDays will gather travel information even if the main application is not running. Upon application launch, you’ll be presented with a pop-up for each country visited and associated time period for those countries.

Please be advised, that we do not send location data to the server in the background. Application location data is offline on the device in an encrypted database and is cleared after travel submission within the application is complete.

If I change SIM cards when moving to another country will this cause a problem for the App?

No it will not, but you will need to open the App up and should go to the Account page to be sure the App is tracking. Select the “Start Tracking” tab if it is not. Be sure to go to “Settings” in your phone, select “CountUrDays” App, select “Location” and set the selection to “Always” allow location access. This will allow the App to monitor your location for more accurate tracking.
